The Galaxy

Betsie and Kobus could not be more welcoming and accommodating. The cottage is more than adequate and has all the comforts to keep one warm during the cold winter nights. Make sure you spend some time in Sutherland and arrange to visit the church and do a walking tour of the town. Fascinating history and very friendly locals. Obviously one visits SAAO and SALT but would recommend the day tour as you get to see SALT up close and the views from the mountain top are out of this world. The stars are exceptional and the local tour is really interesting. Dress warmly as no matter how many layers you have on you will still be cold. Being able to cater for yourself is really nice and the breakfast served by Betsie and Kobus is wonderful on the enclosed, warm, sunny veranda. Highly recommend The Galaxy.

We stayed at The Galaxy on Saturday night and encountered wonderful hospitality from Betsie and Kobus Muller, the charming and delightful owners of this quaint B&B. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable, the breakfast which they personally served was generous and tasty, typical Karoo morning fare from fruit cocktail (including prickly pear), juice, warm oats with cinnamon, coffee and tea, full cooked breakfast of eggs, sausage, bacon, etc..it kept us bikers going for half the day! And there was very little about Sutherland and its history the Mullers did not know and they share their fascinating knowledge enthusiastically, and all of this for R320 a head. We will be back! We cannot recommend The Galaxy highly enough - what a pleasure. Thank you again Betsie and Kobus
