Lovely overnight stay
Our Matjiesfontein experience was delightful. From the singalong in the pub with Johnny through the delicious dinner and our comfortable riverside mews room to an excellent breakfast. Staff all so friendly and efficient. We loved it.

Little gem
Matjiesfontein has been on my bucket list for many years. This visit was no disappointment. Friendly staff, pretty, more than adequate rooms. Fabulous breakfast, and service. The town is small, but packed with personality. Meet Johnny, character of note....

Not top of the list
I stayed at the Motel section and although I did not expect luxury, I did anticipate friendliness and hospitality from staff and coffee shop/restaurant. However, I was greeted with hostility. Standing in front of the counter, waiting to be seated...with staff passing by and not even offering to serve me or give me as much as a hallo! My room was okay, the patio had no seats although the ones next to me did! The shower was clean but needs maintenance as side doors seem to peel off. Overpriced and commercialised in my opinion and I am an experienced traveller...having stayed in hostels and motels in South Africa as well as abroad. So disappointed.

We had been booked into room 21 at Lord Milner Hotel. Overall ok, but room needs an overall and electric blanket - it was very cold. The breakfast and dinner was excellent. What a great wedding venue for my youngest daughter...!The experience will be repeated. Regards

Paradise in a time-capsule
The Lord Milner was everything we had expected: an experience in 19th Century opulence. The staff were courteous and very helpful. The rooms were large and comfortable. The meals were excellent. The whole village environment was delightful and relaxing to the soul, Most especially the gardens proved to be something like a paradise on earth. We should have stayed for three nights rather than two!
Thanks to all the staff who made our stay so wonderful.

Great historic charm
A great place to stay, just a challenge to use the shower with the door opening inwards. Food was excellent and fast, no waiting at all!

We stayed at the motel, which was very nice with your own terrace and a great view on the gardens. We were told that this is the next project to renovate, which is rather necessary, but nevertheless I would prefer the motel.... it was a great experience to stay at this place. If you didn't know about it you'd never find it, which (I think) is a pity. If you travel from Oudtshoorn to the Western Cape it's a "must" to stop here.

Overnight stay en route
We enjoyed the 'old world' charm of the Lord Milner with its beautiful gardens. The staff was friendly, the rooms clean and neat, and the dinner tasty. Truly a gem no one should pass by en route on the N1.

Stay at matjiesfontein
Great. Fun trip by bus. Entertainment at pub very relaxing. Afrikaanse liedjies so lekker om saam te sing. Room 19 - relaxing and looked great. Meals very pleasing and staff very friendly and helpful. Also enjoyed the museums.

Blast from the past
If you want memory making experience book into the Lord Milner Hotel. It is like stepping back in history. The local tour guide / entertainer is worth his weight in gold. The food is excellent and the staff friendly, helpful and professional. Accommodation in a hotel dating back to 1800's is memory making.

Lord Milner - herstel die ou glorie!
Dit is 'n pragtige gebou met die ou wêreldse atmosfeer. Ongelukkig het verwaarlosing ingetree en is alles vuil en stowwerig en lyk onversorg. Die meubels is ietwat karig en benodig dringende versorging. Ons kamer was goed, hoewel die gordyne ens. afgeleef voorkom en alles stowwerig is. Die kos was van hoogstaande gehalte en die personeel vriendelik.
